Become an NDIS Support Worker in Western Sydney

Serving: St Marys · Epping · Western Sydney

If you've ever finished a day and wished your work meant something more, choosing to become an NDIS support worker might be one of the most rewarding moves you can make. Across St Marys, Epping and the wider Western Sydney community, people living with disability are looking for caring, reliable people to walk alongside them in everyday life. At Adom Grace Care, we believe great support starts with great people, and we'd love to help you build a career out of doing genuine good.

What does an NDIS support worker actually do?

A support worker helps people with disability live the life they choose. No two days look exactly the same, and that's part of what makes the work so meaningful. One morning you might be helping someone get ready for the day; that afternoon you might be out at the shops, the library, or a local cafe in Epping.

Your role can include:

  • Personal care such as showering, dressing and grooming, always done with dignity and respect.
  • Daily living support like cooking, cleaning, shopping and managing the household.
  • Community access so the person can get to appointments, social outings, sport, study or work.
  • Social and emotional support that helps someone feel connected, confident and less isolated.
  • Skill building that helps a person grow their independence over time, at their own pace.

Above all, the job is about listening. The best support workers understand that the person they support is the expert in their own life. Your job is to make their goals possible, not to decide them.

Why the work is so rewarding

People often come into support work thinking they'll be giving a lot, and they will. What surprises them is how much they get back.

You become part of someone's world. You see the small wins that matter enormously: a participant catching the train on their own for the first time, cooking a meal they're proud of, or simply having someone to share a laugh with. In a fast-moving area like Western Sydney, you become a steady, trusted presence in someone's week.

It's also flexible support work. Many of our team value being able to fit shifts around family, study or other commitments. And because demand for quality support keeps growing, it's a field with genuine long-term prospects.

What you'll need to get started

You don't need to have it all figured out before you reach out, but there are a few standard support worker qualifications and checks for working in disability support in NSW. Most of these protect the people you'll be supporting, and we'll help guide you through anything you're missing.

The essentials

  • Working With Children Check (WWCC) if you'll be supporting younger participants.
  • National Police Check so families can feel confident about who is in their home.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check, which is the standard clearance for working in the sector.
  • First Aid and CPR certificate, kept up to date.

Helpful to have

  • A Certificate III in Individual Support (or Disability/Ageing) is highly valued, and we welcome people working toward it.
  • A current driver licence and a reliable car, since Western Sydney is spread out and many participants need transport to appointments and outings.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module ("Quality, Safety and You"), a free online course that's a great starting point.

The qualities that matter most

Certificates open the door, but character keeps it open. We look for people who are:

  • Patient and warm, with real empathy for others.
  • Reliable, because the people you support are counting on you to turn up.
  • Respectful of privacy, culture, faith and individual choice.
  • Good communicators who can listen as well as they speak.

If English is your second language, that's often a strength. Western Sydney is wonderfully diverse, and participants frequently feel most at ease with someone who shares their language or culture.

What it's like to work with Adom Grace Care

We're building a team that treats both participants and staff like family. That means proper onboarding that takes you from your first shift as a support worker onward, ongoing support from people who answer the phone when you call, and shifts matched thoughtfully to your skills and the participants' needs. Whether you're in St Marys, Epping or somewhere in between, we want your work to feel sustainable and genuinely fulfilling.

We also believe in growing our people. If you're starting out, we'll help you find your feet. If you're experienced, we'll respect what you bring and give you room to do your best work.
